Hunter Henry is going to be the most coveted tight end in free agency, but he isn't ruling out the idea of re-signing with the Los Angeles Chargers. During an interview with TMZ Sports, Henry highlighted Justin Herbert as a big reason why he's hoping to return to the Chargers.
“I will say I'm not ruling out the Chargers,” said the star tight end, who's caught 196 receptions for L.A. since his draft in 2016. “I'm not ruling out the Chargers and I won't rule out the Chargers.”
“My favorite quarterback?” Henry told us. “Shoot, I love Herbie. That's my guy!”
Before the 2020 season, Henry was given the franchise tag by the Chargers, giving him a season to prove that he's worth a long-term deal. Henry would manage to start in a career-high 14 games, where he recorded a career-best 60 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns with Herbert as his quarterback.
Article Continues BelowInjuries have been a constant concern for Henry as he's missed 25 games in his five years thus far, including the entire 2018 season. But when Henry is on the field, the Arkansas product is a reliable pass-catcher for the Chargers.
Entering free agency, there aren't a ton of tight ends for teams to choose from. That puts Henry in a position where he could become one of the highest-paid tight ends in the NFL this offseason.
Without a doubt, there are going to be a few teams who heavily pursue the former second-round pick in hopes to improve at tight end. However, while he considers his options, Henry made it clear that he would love to continue catching passes from Herbert.
