Los Angeles Chargers star running back Melvin Gordon is considering extending his training camp holdout until midseason, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
“Melvin Gordon has considered all options with holdout, including possibly staying away until midseason,” Fowler tweeted on Tuesday, echoing his sentiments shared on his ESPN program “Get Up” appearance.
Fowler also added that the Gordon-Chargers ordeal is a “fluid situation, but [the] top RB market is $13M+ and Chargers aren’t close.”
RB Melvin Gordon has considered all options with holdout, including possibly staying away until midseason, as I reported on @GetUpESPN. Fluid situation, but top RB market is $13M+ and Chargers aren’t close. Would need to avoid contract tolling.

Gordon, selected by the Chargers with the 15th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is among various players holding out during the mandatory training camp occurring around the league, as teams prepare for the preseason. Gordon joins Dallas Cowboys running back and two-time rushing yards leader Ezekiel Elliott as a top-billed training camp holdout.
Yahoo's Charles Robinson reported last Saturday that Gordon and the Chargers are around $2-3 million apart in negotiations. Robinson added that the 26-year-old Gordon is looking for a contract like the Arizona Cardinals' David Johnson: three years, $39 million. Robinson also believes $12 million per year “with incentives” would get a deal done, though.
Gordon's and Elliott's holdouts for the Bolts and ‘Boys, respectively, have been drawing comparisons to Le'Veon Bell, with the former Pittsburgh Steelers running back on the forefront of everybody's mind. Bell, 27, did not sign the Steelers' franchise tag in 2018 and held himself out of team activities through the offseason and training camp periods. Eventually, the relationship soured and Bell did not report to Pittsburgh's first nine games, making him ineligible for the remainder of last season. Bell signed with the New York Jets in free agency earlier this year.
