Heading into his second year in the league, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams has been one of the bright spots for the team in training camp and the preseason.

Following what was a disappointing rookie campaign that was impacted greatly by injury, Williams now has a clean bill of health and a clear focus on what he believes will be a completely different year for him on the field in 2018, according to Dan Woike of The LA Times.

“I’d be the first person to tell you that,” Williams said when asked if the difference was like night and day. “It’s totally different for me. I’m able to go out there and make those plays I couldn’t make last year, make the contested catches. The confidence just comes from being out there. I’m back out there having fun.”

Williams had the start of his NFL career ravaged with injuries as he suffered a herniated disc early on in the offseason workouts that led to him miss everything from that point forward through the first six games of the season due to his recovery from the injury. He had returned to the field but struggled to make a significant impact in the passing game finishing with only 11 catches for 95 receiving yards.

However, things have been quite different this time around as he has been a huge factor in the passing game showing his big-play ability on the practice field and the preseason. In his limited action, Williams has racked up four catches for 56 receiving yards and a touchdown. His lone touchdown came on an impressive 25-yard catch against the Seattle Seahawks where he made the grab over a defender in the back of the end zone. It was a clear sign that Williams is back to being completely healthy and passed that previous back issue.

All of this could set the table for him to put forth a breakout campaign and help give the Chargers an explosive 1-2 punch in the passing game alongside Keenan Allen that could help the franchise get back in the playoffs.
