The Los Angeles Chargers are slated to host a star-studded showdown when the Houston Texans come to town in Week 3. It is safe to say that it will be quite a reunion for the Watt family.
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt finds himself squaring off against his brother and Chargers full back Derek Watt. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, he admits he is proud to see his younger sibling on the scouting report for this week:
“It’s very surreal,” he said. “Just being in a meeting and see him on the scouting report, putting on the film, and it’s just like every other week and you’re watching film, but all of a sudden it’s your brother on the film instead of just a fullback. It’s very cool. I’m not going to try and act like it’s not exciting or anything. It’s awesome. We literally played football in the backyard and the front yard and dreamt about playing in the NFL, so this is going to be very special.”
Watt's excitement is certainly understandable. Brothers seldom ever make it to the NFL and even then the chances of them being on the field at the same time are slim to none. Fortunately, that will be the case in Week 3. It will be interesting to see if they ever have the chance to come face-to-face.
The Texans managed to secure their first win of the 2019 NFL season albeit in ugly fashion against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meanwhile, the Chargers are looking to get back in the win column following a disappointing loss to the Detroit Lions.
