The Los Angeles Rams were unable to get their offense rolling in their preseason opener. When a team sits nearly all of its starters, Sean McVay realizes that the product on the field isn't going to be the same when the regular season begins.

The Rams opened their exhibition schedule against the Oakland Raiders on Saturday night. Los Angeles was woeful throughout the game, losing 14-3. For McVay, this game doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Coming into the game, all eyes were on rookies Darrell Henderson, Greg Gaines, and Taylor Rapp. None of them played a lot, but Rapp showed why he was the Rams' second-round pick in this year's draft. All of the rookies will likely continue to get some reps leading up to the regular season.

Despite just scoring three points, there were some players who stood out from the rest. Here are the three biggest performances for the Rams in their preseason opener.

3. KhaDarel Hodge (3 Receptions, 48 Yards)

Making the Rams' roster as a wide receiver is a tall task with all the talent at the position. On Saturday night, KhaDarel Hodge may have made an impression on the coaching staff with his decent performance.

With the Rams struggling to get much of anything going, Hodge played fairly well, catching three passes for 48 yards. Blake Bortles seemed to have a good connection with Hodge. The two connected on two passes for 38 yards on the Rams' second drive of the game.

Last season, Hodge made the Rams' practice squad and was activated onto the roster early in the season. The undrafted rookie had just two receptions for 17 yards in 2018.

Similar to last year, Hodge is trying to make the roster at one of the deepest positions for the Rams. Saturday night's performance was a good start for the second-year wideout in his attempt to earn a spot on the team.

2. John Wolford (6-8, 54 Yards, 2 Rushes, 12 Yards)

In a game in which fans were anxious to watch Blake Bortles and Brandon Allen under center, the best quarterback of the night was John Wolford. He came in later in the game but seized the opportunity he was given.

Earlier this offseason, Wolford was brought to Los Angeles after spending some time in the AAF with the Arizona Hotshots. Wolford started seven games in the AAF, throwing for 1,617 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Wolford is slated to be the Rams' fourth-string quarterback and has an uphill battle to make the roster. Against the Raiders, Wolford displayed his potential with 54 yards through the air on six completions.

Last season, McVay kept two quarterbacks on the roster with Sean Mannion as the sole backup. It's likely that Bortles will be the only quarterback to remain on the active roster. However, Wolford could land on the practice squad if he continues to impress the coaching staff.

1. Steven Parker (5 Tackles, 1 Interception)

The offense may have struggled for Los Angeles on Saturday night, but the defense came to play. The secondary intercepted two passes in the game.

Among the players who corraled an interception, Steven Parker may have had the best night of anyone in a white jersey against Oakland. Parker, an undrafted rookie in 2018, made five tackles and intercepted a Mike Glennon pass.

In 2018, Parker spent the entirety of the season on the Rams' practice squad. This season, Parker is competing for a job at one of the safety positions, but it will tough for him to unseat any of the guys in front of him.

Parker could earn a spot on the practice squad again if he carries his newfound momentum throughout the preseason.
