Apparently, the Los Angeles Rams flirted with the idea of making their defense the ‘Avengers’ version of the NFL. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Rams proposed a trade to the Oakland Raiders in the offseason that would land Los Angeles linebacker Khalil Mack. However, the Rams reportedly had no intention of keeping the monster pass rusher beyond the 2018 NFL season.

The Los Angeles Rams made a pitch to acquire premier pass rusher Khalil Mack with the intention of giving him a raise this season, then dealing him at the end of the year to recoup some if not all of the draft compensation they gave up, according to sources.

Had that deal pushed through, that would have made the Rams’ defense this season the ultimate nightmare in the league. Adding Mack to the Rams’ stop unit that already features defensive end Aaron Donald would’ve been a devastating news for the rest of the NFL.

The Rams were definitely willing to go for broke this season by thinking of trading for Khalil Mack even though they were aware that they are unlikely to be the long-term home for the linebacker considering the financial stress that will come along with such a deal.

In the end, the Raiders turned down Los Angeles’ offer.

Rams executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff said last week that the team had made an aggressive offer for Mack that was ultimately rejected.

Instead, the Rams looked the other way and shipped Mack to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a slew of future draft picks after a lengthy holdout by the Buffalo product.
