Earlier this offseason, the Los Angeles Rams made the simple decision to pick up the fifth-year option on star running back Todd Gurley's contract for the 2019 season.

Still, there is still a discussion about when the team will begin working out a new, long-term deal with the 23-year-old. However, Gurley doesn't appear to be too caught up with contract talks this offseason, according to Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register.

The Rams have yet to publicly comment on Gurley's contract situation beyond his option, but it's something that will certainly be on the docket next offseason if an extension hasn't been signed. He has developed into one of the premier running backs in the league through his first three years in the NFL.

Gurley is coming off his a highly productive year that saw him earn the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. He even garnered some consideration for the MVP award after he led the NFL with 2,093 scrimmage yards and 19 total touchdowns. Gurley also became just the third player in league history to have at least 2,000 scrimmage yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and more than five touchdowns receptions in a single season, joining Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and O.J. Simpson.

Los Angeles will likely put that at the top of the docket for next offseason if the two haven't worked a new deal prior. That said, the focus this offseason remains on working out a new extension for star defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who is in the fifth-year option of his rookie deal.

Meanwhile, safety Lamarcus Joyner is on the franchise tag that has a deadline of July 16 to work out an extension. There are several other orders of business that the Rams must take care of first, which is something that Gurley clearly recognizes.
