The New York Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones are gearing up for what figures to be a promising 2023 season. The Giants made an unlikely second-round playoff appearance a year ago with Jones having a career season, and now, new tight end Darren Waller seems to think that Jones's ceiling could be even higher.
Waller recently chatted with Pat Leonard of New York Daily News Sports about his quarterback.
“[Jones is] throwing darts. He’s a great athlete,” said Waller. “He’s got that calming presence in the huddle. He deserves the pressure, the expectations, all that. Because he’s that kind of guy.”
The Giants signed the 2020 Pro Bowler Darren Waller to a contract this offseason to help bolster an already impressive offensive attack. Daniel Jones had faced criticism and doubts from the fanbase heading into the 2022 season. However, he quieted those concerns with career highs of 3,205 yards, a 67.2% completion percentage, and a 92.5 rating.
Jones led the Giants to an upset victory on the road over the Minnesota Vikings in the postseason. The team finally bowed out to the Philadelphia Eagles in the next round.
For his services, Jones was rewarded with a four-year, $160 million extension with the franchise to keep him there long term.
The Giants may not be considered Super Bowl contenders heading into 2023. Still, things are still as optimistic for the franchise as they have been in several years.
With Waller joining a talented offensive cast that features both Jones and star running back Saquon Barkley, the Giants will look to start strong against the Dallas Cowboys on September 10.
