It has been nearly a week since the New York Giants formally announced the decision to hire Pat Shurmur as their next head coach and East Rutherford is abuzz.

According to John Healy of the New York Daily News, former Pro Bowl quarterback Eli Manning voiced his excitement toward working with Shurmur for the 2018 season.

“(I'm) just excited to see how he calls games, how he looks at defenses, how he wants to pick them apart and just seeing his insight to that and learn from it,” Manning said. “So we can see things the same way, have great communication and figure out how to score some points.”

Shurmur is coming off a highly successful lone season as the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator in which he helped them become one of the top scoring offenses in the league. The Vikings finished 10th in the NFL with 23.9 points per game, seventh with 122.3 per yards contest, and 11th with 234.6 yards per game.

Meanwhile, Manning experienced his own fair share of struggles in the 2017 campaign that saw his production noticeably drop, throwing for just 3,468 yards to go along with 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. This poor stat-line contributed to the Giants finishing only above the winless Cleveland Browns in scoring offense with 15.4 points per game.

Granted, the 37-year-old didn't have his full slate of receiving options with Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard sidelined for sizable chunks of the season due to injuries.

The Giants have already voiced that they plan on having Manning, who has two more years remaining on his four-year, $84 million deal, return for the 2018 season. The front office could put forth some major changes to the roster such as helping restructure their offensive line, which contributed to much of their struggles on that side of the ball.

It is still quite early in the process, but the new buzz around the organization could be the start of officially turning around the team.
