Last year was a disappointing season for the New York Giants, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The offensive line was terrible, the entire receiving corps was hurt, and they were going with running back by committee at best.
This offseason, they have made the moves to surround Eli Manning with good players as they try to make one or two more runs with the two time Super Bowl winning quarterback under center. Manning likes what the team has done and said it looks good — at least on paper.
“We definitely have some [talented] players,” Manning said, via NJ.com. “Paper is one thing, but you have to be able to do it on the field. You have to have everybody come together. It’s not four or five guys that make a difference. It’s all 11, and more than that sometimes. Both sides doing their part.”
The Giants took Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick, and many believe he is a once in a generation talent. He joins Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram as part of a talented and dynamic Giants skill-position group. New York has been a revolving door at running back the last few years, so having a good three-down back is exciting.
“You like those three-down running backs,” Manning said. “I haven't watched a whole lot of film on him. You've got to let him get here and earn his (stripes) a little bit. I know he is very talented. I'm just excited to get him in the facility and on the practice field and work with him.”
Now comes the hard part for Eli Manning and the Giants. He is going to need to step up his game this year and limit the turnovers. This might be the best offensive team that he has around him, but if he keeps turning the ball over, it won't matter.
