The New York Giants have suffered through yet another disappointing start to the 2018 NFL season with a 1-7 record. That has led to the possibility that the Giants could make some moves prior to the trade deadline. Landon Collins is one of the players that has been rumored to be available in trade discussions.
According to a report from Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, the Giants have received quite a few trade offers for Collins, but have not decided whether they are willing to deal him or not.
The possibility exists because according to a league source, the Giants have received trade offers for the 24-year-old safety, and some believe they might be willing to move him if they receive a second-day pick (Rounds 2 and 3) in the 2019 NFL Draft. The specifics of the offers they've received so far weren't immediately available, nor was it clear whether the Giants were close to making a move. But one league source said it doesn't appear the Giants have closed the door on trading anyone before on their roster before the trading deadline on Tuesday.
Collins is one of the best safeties in the NFL and would be a huge addition for anyone that acquired him. New York could also get a nice draft pick in exchange for him.
Throughout the 2018 NFL season thus far, Collins has racked up 62 tackles to go along with a forced fumble and four defended passes. He has been a sure tackler his entire career and is a capable playmaker.
One thing that could keep teams from trying to be aggressive in trade talks for Collins is the fact that he is in the final year of his contract. Getting him to sign a long-term extension could be a difficult task. Collins may want to test free agency this coming offseason.
New York has quite a few decisions to make and trading Collins could end up being one of them.
