Despite the tumultuous 2017 season for the New York Giants, general manager David Gettleman confirmed quarterback Eli Manning will return under center next year. However, that does not mean the Giants' quarterback situation has been completely resolved.
There has been speculation that New York could potentially bring in another quarterback to learn under Manning. According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Wyoming's Josh Allen has given his pitch to the Giants by saying he would be ecstatic to learn from the two-time Super Bowl champ:
“Being able to learn from Eli would be fantastic,’’ Allen told reporters. “He’s obviously a two-time Super Bowl winner and super knowledgeable at the game of football. I was able to spend some time with him at the Manning Passing Academy, and he’s a great guy. So being able to go down there, [I would] soak up everything he does and follow him around like a puppy.”
To say that New York struggled this season would be a massive understatement. An injury-riddled start to the year ultimately resulted in Manning being benched for the first time since taking over as the franchise's starting quarterback. It should be noted that the Giants already have a potential project player in quarterback Davis Webb, whom they took in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. However, Webb still has yet to make his pro debut.
One of the few benefits of enduring a disastrous season is that the Giants now own the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. There are a number of quarterback prospects New York would be able to potentially choose from should they go that route. However, very few have expressed the sort of excitement that Josh Allen has displayed at the thought of working of Eli Manning.
