The New York Giants have not had a great start to the 2024 NFL season. New York is 2-3 heading into Week 6 and sits at the bottom of the NFC East. The Giants will be without one of their top defensive players after some surprise injury news on Wednesday.
Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered a fractured scaphoid bone in his wrist and had surgery to repair it today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapaport.
Giants coach Brian Daboll described Thibodeaux as “week-to-week” following the surgery.
Thibodeaux leaving the starting lineup will be a problem for the Giants. New York has relied on its swarming defense to harass opposing QBs and get the ball back for their offense. In fact, the Giants lead the NFL in sacks through five weeks with 22. They still have Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns, but their pass rush will certainly take a hit without Thibodeaux completing the trio.
New York will have to lean on Azeez Ojulari, who should step into Thibodeaux's spot in the starting lineup.
Giants preparing for huge Week 6 game against the Bengals

The Giants will face the Bengals in a crucial Week 6 matchup.
New York can get to .500 with a win in front of their home crowd. However, they will be playing a true cornered animal in the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cincinnati suffered a heartbreaking loss in Week 5, falling 41-38 in overtime after botching what would have been a game-winning field goal attempt. The Bengals are 1-4 through five weeks and are absolutely desperate to win a game. That could be a problem for New York.

Injuries will be an important factor leading up to this game. For the Giants, they will be looking to get two crucial players back on offense — rookie WR Malik Nabers and RB Devin Singletary.
Malik Nabers is still in the NFL's concussion protocol. Giants coach Brian Daboll described Nabers as “feeling better” and “day-to-day” according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com. However, it is still unclear whether Nabers will clear concussion protocol before the game.
Meanwhile, Daboll said he expects Devin Singletary to be listed as a limited participant at Wednesday's practice.
“But he’s trending in the right direction,” Daboll said.
Singletary progressed from did not practice to limited participant during last week's practice, and was only listed as doubtful in Week 5. This suggests that Singletary should be good to go in Week 6.
The Giants and Bengals will do battle on Sunday Night Football in Week 6.
