The New York Giants are currently without arguably their best player. Superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is still recovering from an ankle injury he suffered almost a month ago during the NFL preseason.

On Thursday, Beckham gave a little insight into his ankle issue and claims it could be a long time before it is fully healed, via ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

“I don't really know how realistic it was,” Beckham said. “As bad as I wanted to play, it just wasn't there. It had been three weeks after the injury. It hasn't even been a month since it happened. This is a six- to eight-week thing. Unfortunately, as much as I was trying my hardest to get there, it just wasn't enough time.”

With Beckham claiming it'll be some time before his ankle is 100 percent, it begs the question about when he'll return to the field for the Giants.

Fortunately for New York, Beckham did get back on the practice field to do some drills this week, via Raanan.

“It felt good. It felt good just to be back out there,” Beckham said. “Something about — it's just when you put that helmet on, it's a different mode. When you put the helmet on and go out there and warm up and when we got to individuals, I was running routes. I was feeling pretty good.

“So, like I said, we're definitely taking major strides in the right direction. It's a matter of time.”

Although the team appears optimistic he'll play in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, the official status of the star wideout still remains to be seen.
