When Saquon Barkley went down early in the 2020 season with a torn ACL, the chances for the New York Giants to compete for a division title took a major hit. They were never able to fully recover as their star running back was out for the year after playing in just two games.
With training camp in full swing and less than a year out since his injury and surgery, the Giants received very encouraging news that Barkley is set to return to practice for the first time since his injury. Via the New York Post, head coach Joe Judge spoke on the matter.

I let the medical team tell me a guy is good to go and put him on the field, I know he’s good to go…In terms of a player like Saquon and a timetable coming back, he’s making daily progress. I know it sounds like a broken record, but that’s important for us to see coming off an injury like this. You want to make sure that it’s not push forward and take a step back.’’
Getting Barkley back and potentially having him available for Week 1 would be a huge boost to the Giants and a running game that struggled mightily in his absence during the 2020 season. When he's healthy, Barkley is as dynamic as they get at the running back position. Unfortunately, over the last two years Barkley has had trouble fighting away the injury bug. Let's hope 2021 is different.
