Since being taken with the second overall pick in this year's draft by the New York Giants, rookie running back Saquon Barkley has quickly left a strong impression on the organization and other players around the league.
One of those that has been quite impressed by Barkley's is Los Angeles Rams star running back Todd Gurley, who voiced to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire that the 21-year-old has the maturity level that is well beyond his age.
“No, man, just working out, honestly. Football is football. I told him the NFL is probably going to be a lot easier than college. As far as the schedule, the pound and ground on your body,” Gurley told Rams Wire via phone. “Just enjoy it. He’s been doing such a great job his whole life. He’s just a great person, too, so he’s way above his years. He loves the game, so it’s good to see a person like that.”
Barkley has not only shown that he has the physical tools to be a highly productive player in the league, but also the mind frame and maturity that could help him stay on track for many years down the line in the NFL. He has already voiced that he plans on handling his money wisely while taking the approach to investing it properly into things that will help him avoid that pit hole that many athletes prior to him have fallen into with being broke after their playing careers.
All of this gives off the perception that the Giants will not have anything to worry about off the field regarding Barkley in any capacity. He appears to have his life in order, which should set the table for him to quickly showcase that he can be one of the game's rising star running backs.
The opportunity is in front of Barkley to become the centerpiece of the Giants offense for the next decade, and he appears to have the proper mentality to help him reach that goal.
