For the New York Giants, they could have gone just about any direction with the number two overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. They could have taken a quarterback, Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb or even traded away the pick.

As the draft got closer, there was more and more talk about the Giants taking a quarterback but when they handed in their draft card the name on it was the guy rumored to them all along, Barkley.

One of the big reasons, according to the New York Post, that the Giants didn't decide to take a quarterback with the No. 2 pick was that no one was really on the same page about who to pick.

“It is not as if the Giants viewed this quarterback class as trash. They liked three of them — Baker Mayfield was not in the discussion very long — a great deal but in order to justify the No. 2 overall pick, there had to be love, of which there was none. Most troubling, and telling, was there was no true consensus among the Giants coaches, scouts and front office as to the pecking order. Some liked Sam Darnold best. Others liked Josh Allen best. Darnold, Allen. Allen, Darnold. Around and around it went, and then, a little Josh Rosen sprinkled in. What does that tell you?”

Many believed that if the Giants went quarterback, they would have gone with Sam Darnold but if it was Pat Shurmur he had Josh Allen from Wyoming number one on his big board.

For the Giants, they have decided that Eli Manning is their quarterback and they are trying to surround him with pieces to succeed, something they did a pretty good job of during the draft.
