It was the end of an era in Seattle when the Seahawks traded star quarterback Russell Wilson, who had only ever played for the franchise, to the Denver Broncos. Not only that, but Seattle went on to release longtime Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner later that evening. In a span of one day, two of the franchise's most important players walked out the door. Needless to say, it was a pretty emotional day for the franchise and their fans.
The Wilson trade was also a surprising move from the perspective of the players, specifically wide receiver DK Metcalf. Metcalf spoke about the Wilson trade during a recent appearance on former NBA star Kevin Garnett's podcast KG Certified:

DK Metcalf said that he was “very shocked” to learn of the Russell Wilson trade. Metcalf said that he didn't expect the new Broncos quarterback to ever leave the Seahawks.
No one can blame Metcalf for feeling that way, as it was starting to look like Wilson would be back with the Seahawks. However, there were differences between the two parties, plus the Broncos made Seattle an offer that they really couldn't refuse.
It was also interesting to hear the Seahawks wideout speak about just how fast the Wilson trade happened. Metcalf said he received a call informing him that the deal could happen, then an hour later, the Seattle star was dealt to the Broncos.
That's also part of the reason why it had to be so jarring for Metcalf. There was almost no time to process that the only quarterback he has ever known in the NFL was traded away.
