Nicole Scherzinger, Sarah Snook and Mark Gatiss won top acting honors at the 2024 Olivier Awards, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Sunset Boulevard musical revival and Stranger Things: The First Shadow also won awards held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The ceremony was hosted by Hannah Waddingham.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard won best musical revival as well as best actress for Scherzinger who played Norma Desmond. The musical also led the nominations list with 11 and won five other awards. It's set to arrive in the US, on Broadway, this year. This was Scherzinger's Broadway debut.
The prequel to the Netflix series, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which has plans to move to Broadway, won best new entertainment or comedy play and best set design.
James Graham's play about Gareth Southgate, the English national football team manager, Dear England, was nominated for nine nominations and won two awards. Operation Mincemeat won best new musical, as well as best actor in a supporting role in a musical for Jak Malone.
Succession's Snook won best actress for her one-woman version by Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. She played all 26 roles in the production which also won best costume design.
Sherlock's Gatiss won best actor for The Motive and the Cue. The play was written by Jack Thorne (of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Netflix's Enola Holmes and HBO's His Dark Materials) and directed by Sam Mendes. The story follows the behind-the-scenes of the 1964 Broadway play Hamlet by William Shakespeare.
It starred Richard Burton (played by Johnny Flynn) and Elizabeth Taylor (Tuppence Middleton) directed by Sir John Gielgud (Gatiss). As the rehearsals proceed, the past and present version of the play collide.
The nominations were announced last month.
