Satou Sabally looks more than ready to make her return to the Dallas Wings following the Olympic break. Sabally, who did not play during the first portion of the 2024 WNBA season after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, is currently playing for Team Germany at the Olympics. She led Germany to a pivotal 75-64 victory over Japan on Thursday and made Olympic history in the process.

Sabally's 33 points in the win are the eighth most points scored ever in Olympics women's basketball. The Wings provided a full list of the Olympic women's single-game high-scorers.

Sabally's performance will unquestionably excite Germany fans. It will also catch the Wings' attention. Sabally has not displayed any signs of rust after missing an extended period of time. She is averaging 25 points and six rebounds per outing through Germany's first two games.

Satou Sabally poised for Wings return

The Wings will resume play in mid-August. Arike Ogunbowale has led Dallas throughout the 2024 season. The Wings have struggled overall, but Ogunbowale was selected to the All-Star team.

Ogunbowale is one of the best players in the league. The same can be said for Sabally. With Sabally and Ogunbowale leading the charge, Dallas may be able to make some noise during the final month of the regular season.

The Wings are currently tied for the worst record (6-19) in the WNBA with the Washington Mystics. Injuries have negatively impacted the Wings all season long. Dallas also features a number of young and inexperienced players.

The future is bright, however. Dallas should be able to bounce back in 2025 if injuries do not play too much of a role. Perhaps Dallas can even surprise some people around the WNBA world and compete for a postseason spot in 2024.

The circumstances are obviously not ideal from a standings perspective. Satou Sabally's return may realistically spark a strong post-Olympic break performance for the team, though.

Sabally is focused on leading Germany at the moment. However, Dallas fans are certainly excited for her return to the Wings.
