The Green Bay Packers have a busy offseason ahead of them. They will try to avoid too much turnover to their roster at key positions. Among the notable players set to hit free agency is linebacker Blake Martinez.

Martinez has admitted that he has yet to receive any indication from head coach Matt LaFleur or general manager Brian Gutekunst that he will be back. Matt Schneidman of The Athletic predicts that he is likely on his way out this offseason:

He’s a great guy, but just watch the NFC title game and you’ll see why the Packers likely won’t re-sign Martinez this offseason unless it’s for dirt cheap (which it won’t be).

The prospect of Green Bay opting not to re-sign Martinez does not appear to be too far-fetched. He even acknowledged the possibility after the loss to the San Francisco 49ers of being his last time in gold and white.

While he may have struggled against the 49ers, Martinez still managed to finish the 2019 NFL season well. He registered a career-high 155 tackles to go with three sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, and two pass deflections.

Martinez is one of 15 players on their roster that are about to become unrestricted free agents this offseason. The Packers are currently projected to have approximately $32 million in salary cap space for 2020. In other words, they'll have cap space in order  to keep some familiar faces around.

Although Green Bay had been active in free agency last year, don't expect the same approach this year. Gutekunst has indicated that he will be taking a less aggressive approach this time around. Instead, he hopes to secure their in-house options to long-term deals. However, it remains to be seen whether or not a payday for Martinez is in the books for them.
