The Green Bay Packers are moving on. After defeating the Seattle Seahawks in a nail-bitter at Lambeau Field, the Packers will have the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday. The winner will face either the Tennessee Titans or Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl in Miami.
Aaron Rodgers out-dueled Russell Wilson in the frozen tundra. The Packers quarterback went 16-of 27-passing for 243 yards and two touchdowns to no interceptions on the day, finishing with a 113.7 passer rating.
Meanwhile, Wilson went 21-of-31 passing for 277 yards a touchdown, no interceptions, and a 106.5 passer rating.
The Seahawks came storming back after down 21-3 at halftime, but their efforts weren't enough to keep the Packers at bay. Ultimately, punting it to Rodgers and Co. while down by five did not prove to be an ideal move.
With around three minutes left in the game, Seattle gave the ball to Rodgers and never saw it back. The Packers were able to break out into victory formation after Rodgers threw a third-down completion to tight end Jimmy Graham.
For the Packers, this means going after a Super Bowl in Matt LaFleur's first season in charge. After two seasons out of the postseason entirely, Green Bay has won ugly all year to make it to the point where they are knocking on the door of potentially taking home another Lombardi Trophy.
The Seahawks, on the other hand, were decimated by injuries towards the end of the season. Their reeling defense coupled with their big-play offense did not prove to be fruitful when it mattered most.
