Sean McVay reveals Los Angeles Rams superstar WR Cooper Kupp endured a “setback” with his hamstring injury and is day-to-day, Adam Schefter reported. This is bad news for the Rams, who open up the 2023 season in 10 days. They go on the road against their divisional opponent, the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.

Kupp hurt his hamstring towards the beginning of training camp and missed about three weeks of camp and preseason. He returned to practice last week and McVay said he looked like his usual self. Kupp said he felt great and planned to play in Week 1. Now, his status may be in question for that Week 1 Seahawks game.

In 2021, Cooper Kupp enjoyed the best season by a wide receiver in NFL history. He led the NFL with 145 catches, 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was arguably the most valuable contributor to that Rams team that won the Super Bowl. Between the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl that year, Kupp had 19 catches for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

His 2022 season was limited with injuries, however, and the team struggled as a result. In nine games, Kupp hauled in 75 catches for 812 yards and six touchdowns. The Rams went through a major Super Bowl hangover, finishing 5-12 in a poor attempt to defend their title.

Injuries played a major role in the Rams' 2022 struggles, the roster also just isn't as deep as it was in 2021. Kupp's availability is highly important for an offense that lacks other elite playmaking.

Many are already expecting the Rams to struggle this season. Los Angeles projects to finish third in the NFC West behind the Seahawks and the highly-talented San Francisco 49ers. Worse, the Rams open the season with a really tough three-game stretch. After heading to Seattle, they host the 49ers and then travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals for a Super Bowl rematch.
