Want to know what it's like to have the coronavirus and how scary it is? Ask Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth.

Talking to the media in a video chat by leaders of the NFLPA, per The Press Enterprise, the four-time Pro Bowler revealed he contracted the coronavirus along with other members of his family. The Rams vet described how quickly the virus can spread and how scary the experience was, especially when several relatives got the dreaded disease.

“A couple of days later, we were traveling all together, and she started to not feel well, and ended up deciding to go get a test. Next thing we know, she had it. A couple of days later, my wife and I had it. A couple of days after that, our kids had it. So we were about 7 for 7 at that point,” the Rams player said. “And then, unfortunately, we had just visited my wife’s family, and were traveling with them as well, and her mom and dad both got it.”

According to Whitworth, his wife's father had to be hospitalized due to COVID-19. Fortunately, his father-in-law has since been released and is recovering at home.

“Luckily for us, such a blessing, we got him home about four or five days ago, and he’s home with us now, and we’re very blessed to have him and him be OK,” Andrew Whitworth said. “But it’s definitely a scary thing and a real (lesson in) how contagious this is. It doesn’t take much, and it can spread like wildfire.”

Whitworth described his own symptoms as “mild,” but he emphasized his hope that the scary experience he had will be a wake-up call for other NFL players to take the disease seriously.

“When we say you’re going to have to make good decisions and you’re going to have to be careful outside of the building, we’re talking about things as simple as going to lunch with someone,” the Rams' offensive tackle added. “All it takes is one exposure, that’s the reality. My story is an example of that.”

Whitworth is the second Rams player to test positive, following center Brian Allen who was the first active NFL player to test positive back in April.

The Rams have indicated they knew of the positive test, but they were not sure if it would affect Whitworth's status for training camp.

The NFL is still going full-steam ahead towards opening training camps next week for rookies, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans expected to report on Monday. Negotiations are still ongoing between the league and players over coronavirus protocols for the upcoming 2020 season.
