For the Los Angeles Rams, returning to the Super Bowl is their utmost priority. They still have much of the core that brought them there in Super Bowl LIII, and a bit of a coaching change should do the job. Kevin O'Connell is thought to be the fittest candidate who can take the position from Sean McVay's hands.

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator is the likeliest candidate to get the job as he has prior experience working with McVay during his time with the Washington Redskins.

Fans who watched the Redskins struggle this season may be surprised to know that O'Connell is the favorite to get the post as Washington had one of the worst offenses in the entire league. They were 31sst in the total offensive yards produced at 4395, and the New York Jets were behind them by only 27 yards. However, he's shown that he has the ability to lead a team as the Redskins had a slightly better offensive game with their 74 first downs gotten by rushing.

This hiring is likely a move to help McVay focus on the bigger picture and not just focus on making the offensive plays by not having a coordinator to take control of the offense.. The Rams became an exciting program after his arrival, and his game-calling became one of the most respected in the NFL. However, this season showed McVay that he cannot simply focus on offense and hope that the defense holds up just enough.

Their previous working relationship at Washington should make this partnership blossom into a successful one. And if everything goes well, the Rams shouldn't have to wait long until they see their team on the trail to the Super Bowl.
