The Los Angeles Rams recently inked six-time All-Pro Bobby Wagner to a five-year contract. Wagner, 31, is also an 8-time Pro Bowler who even finished fifth in MVP voting back in 2014. He is undoubtedly one of the best linebackers in the NFL, but Rams head coach Sean McVay recently discussed another big reason why Los Angeles decided to sign Wagner.

“We’re losing some big-time locker room leaders, when you look at what Andrew Whitworth meant to our football team, wen you lose a player like what Von Miller‘s meant, I thought Eric Weddle’s leadership during the playoff run was vital. And to be able to have a guy that will be thrust into a leadership role based on the nature of how you communicate from that middle linebacker spot, but then also just who he is as a human being, there’s a lot of positives, a lot of reasons you can be excited about Bobby joining the Rams.”

Andrew Whitworth and Eric Weddle retired following the Rams' Super Bowl victory. Von Miller left to play in Buffalo with the Bills. It goes without saying that Bobby Wagner will help the Rams' defense remain steady following the departure of defensive stars like Weddle and Miller. But Sean McVay is excited about the leadership that Wagner brings to the table.

For those who may not know, the linebacker is a lot like the quarterback of the defense. He needs to be able to see plays before they happen and tell his teammates to move around on the field if necessary. Having an established veteran like Bobby Wagner in that role could pay huge dividends for the Rams during the 2022-2023 campaign.
