After a shocking 23-20 loss to the previously winless New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay didn’t mince words about how it felt to be that one Jets win, saying it was an “embarrassing” defeat, per Mark Fischer of the New York Post.

The Rams entered the game with a 9-4 record, led the NFC West division, and were favored by 17 points, while the Jets had lost their first 13 games.

But after coming up short in losses to the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders earlier this season, the Jets did enough to pull out the victory for their first win in 357 days. Per ESPN Stats and Info, the Jets became just the third NFL team with a record of 0-13 or worse to get their first win of the season against a team with a winning record.

Still, the 34-year-old, who has guided the Rams to winning records in his first four seasons with the team, said that the loss shouldn’t demoralize his players, especially with two games still left on their schedule and a spot in the playoffs far from certain. Of course, they should be humbled by it:

“This loss will demoralize us only as much as we allow it to,” McVay added. “It’s gonna be embarrassing, sick to your stomach about it… But very humbling.”

The Rams, who fell behind 20-3 in the third quarter before staging a comeback that ultimately fell short, will face the 10-4 Seattle Seahawks in Week 16 before a Week 17 meeting with the 8-6 Arizona Cardinals for their regular-season finale.

Both games will have huge implications for their playoff hopes, and McVay certainly hopes that they will use the humbling loss to the Jets as motivation.
