The Baltimore Ravens may have found a keeper in Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins, their second-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft last month. The potential steal of the second round, and a 2,000-yard rusher in his junior season with the Buckeyes, is boldly predicted to be a “three-down back” by Baltimore's general manager, Eric DeCosta.

Via ESPN's Jamison Hensley on Twitter:

“We think he's a three-down back. He's been extremely durable. He's an outstanding fit for what we like to do.”

Dobbins, 21 years old, had a fantastic collegiate career in the Big Ten in Columbus, Ohio, ending his NCAA tenure with 2,003 rushing yards on 301 carries in 14 games with the Buckeyes in 2019-20. Looking to add even more speed, skill and playmaking in the backfield for last year's regular-season-best Ravens squad, DeCosta and the front office plucked Dobbins out of the crowd with the 55th overall pick in April during the NFL's first-ever virtually conducted draft.

Given the type of versatile offensive scheme the Ravens run, Dobbins could fit perfectly next to last year's NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Mark Ingram Jr. — two former Heisman Trophy winners with Louisville and Alabama, respectively.

Dobbins also combined to catch 71 receptions for 645 yards during his three-year tenure with Ohio State, giving Jackson another target to throw to and another eager playmaker alongside wide receivers Marquise Brown and Willie Brown and tight end Mark Andrews.

Jackson broke the single-season rushing record for NFL quarterbacks in 2019, buoying his MVP candidacy, but of course it doesn't hurt to add another threat in the backfield in Dobbins to advance the Ravens' contending status.
