The Washington Redskins have officially signed linebacker Marquis Flowers, who was released by the Detroit Lions back in early October.
Flowers played just five games for the Lions before being cut loose by former New England Patriots defensive coordinator and current Detroit head coach Matt Patricia.
The former Arizona star made his impact felt with the Patriots during the 2017 season, where he posted 32 combined tackles and 3.5 sacks while playing in all 16 regular season games.
Now, Flowers finds himself heading to the nation’s capital after being signed by the Redskins.
There are obvious improvements that need to be made across the board in Washington, and perhaps Flowers will be able to make his presence felt with his new team.
If there’s one team that’s learned that it never hurts to have too much depth, it’s the Redskins, who have been decimated by injuries this season.
That played a big role in the team being eliminated from playoff last week in the loss to the Tennessee Titans, as Jay Gruden and his staff are down to their fourth quarterback of the season.
The Redskins seemed to finally be finding their groove before starting quarterback Alex Smith broke his leg against the Houston Texans in Week 11.
Washington simply hasn’t been the same since that point in earning just one win in the past six games.
Gruden and company will try to close out the regular season on a positive note when they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
