The Houston Texans and Bill O'Brien are still searching for their new general manager after failing to poach Nick Caserio from the New England Patriots.

It's understandable why the team wanted to get the Patriots' director of player personnel as the man who'll take charge of the team. The way they consistently find the best players over the years is a testament to his skills as an assessor of talent.

However, team owner Robert Kraft also understood the importance of Caserio to his team's future. He did everything in his power to keep him off the prying hands of the Texans. He even threatened them tampering if they continued their pursuit.

Houston eventually dropped their chase on Caserio. Texans head coach Bill O'Brien talked about the mini-saga and accepted that they weren't just meant to get Caserio that instance. He explained the Texans' side of the story.

“I think in the NFL — there’s only 32 teams,” said O’Brien, per Texans Wire. “Sometimes you work in an organization where you know a lot of people and you have a respect for their jobs and what they do and at the end of the day you try to do the best you can to, at times, communicate and maybe you get a chance to work together. In that instance it didn’t really work out. Whatever happened, happened. There’s no hard feelings.”

If they really want Nick Caserio to take the job, they can wait for his contract to expire with the Patriots. However, they better hope that the Pats don't mint a fresh deal with their future GM until then. Until then, four people will have to take responsibility for the post Brian Gaine left.
