Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is entering his third year in the NFL, and at the ripe age of 23, figures to have a lot of football left in him. So much football that his goal is to replicate the lengthy careers of the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees and New England Patriots' Tom Brady.

When asked on Tuesday if he envisions a lengthy career such as Brees' — who he'll play on Monday night — Watson responded by saying he hopes to play well into his 40s.

“For sure. That's the goal, play until I'm 43 or 45, or however long,” he said, per Texans Wire. “Yeah, that's the ultimate goal, try to take it one year at a time. It goes by fast as they always say. I'm already year three. I feel like I just got here, but yeah, those guys are setting the tone for especially all of the younger guys in the league that play until they're 40 years old.”

To play to 43 or 45 as Watson mentions, the Texans offensive line can't give up 62 sacks this season as they did in 2018. He's already suffered through two ACL tears – one in college, the other in his rookie season.

Luckily, Houston recognizes that and wants to take advantage of having their first young franchise quarterback in their short history. In the offseason, the Texans invested three first-round picks and two second-rounders into the line. Two of the first-round picks and one of the second-round picks went to the Miami Dolphins for left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The other first was spent on drafting Tytus Howard, while the second-round pick went to selecting Max Scharping.

Only time will tell if the Texans' investments in their offensive line will help Watson play for a couple more decades, but it's a start to accomplishing his goal.
