The Houston Texans could really use a big year from running back D'Onta Foreman. Houston had high hopes for Foreman when it drafted him in the third round in 2017. His career got off to a promising start.

He looked electric in limited action as a rookie, but then he tore his Achilles on a 34-yard touchdown run. The devastating injury took a long time to recover from, and he didn't make it back on the field until December of last year. He played in one game in 2018, and it was essentially a lost campaign for him.

Now with a full offseason under his belt, the team is hoping he can make a full return in 2019. Texans running backs coach Danny Barrett sounds optimistic about his chances, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

“He's light-years ahead of where he was last year at this time, coming off the injury and everything,” Barrett said. “I still think he's continuing to work hard. I think he's had a good offseason to date. The time away from here, I thought was well spent for himself. Getting ready to go physically, and I think mentally, right now, is what I look at is each and every day.”

Achilles injuries can be very difficult to return from, especially for running backs. Many players never make it back to full strength, but Foreman is trying to defy the odds. Lamar Miller is 28 now and entering the final year of his contract, so it would be huge for the Texans if Foreman can make it back to what he once was.

Foreman has remained defiant in the fact of the adversity.

“It definitely lit a fire under me,” he said. “I feel like people started to count me out and were saying what I couldn't do coming back, but I'm a very strong-minded person.”

The Texas product will have the opportunity to prove a lot of people wrong in 2019.
