In an effort to shore up their ailing backfield, the Houston Texans have acquired running back Carlos Hyde in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Chiefs landed offensive lineman Martinas Rankin in return.

The move comes not long after Texans starting running back Lamar Miller tore his ACL in the preseason.

Hyde split the 2018 campaign between the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars, rushing for 571 yards and five touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.3 yards per carry.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round (57th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He played in 14 games during his rookie year, logging 333 yards and four scores on the ground. Then, the following season, Hyde finished with 470 yards while reaching the end zone three times as a rusher.

It wasn't until his third season in the league that Hyde broke out, as he racked up 988 yards and six touchdowns while registering 4.6 yards per attempt in 2016. In addition, he caught 27 passes for 163 yards and three scores.

The Naples, Fl. native then posted similar numbers in 2017 in terms of volume, totaling 938 yards and eight touchdowns. However, he tallied just 3.9 yards per carry. He was a bigger threat in the passing game, however, hauling in 59 receptions for 350 yards.

The Texans are coming off of a season in which they won 11 games and captured the AFC South division title before ultimately falling to the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
