The Houston Texans shocked the NFL world back in March when they traded star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for a rather minimal return.

On Tuesday, Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt was asked about his thoughts on the deal, and while he acknowledged that losing Hopkins is tough, he didn't offer much on Houston's decision to make the move. He commented about it to Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated:

“Anytime you have a guy like Hop, who in my opinion, has the best hands in the game and is obviously one of the top receivers of the game, it certainly catches your eye, that's for sure … It's always tough to lose a guy like that, no matter what the situation is. It's above my pay grade and it's something that obviously the team and the organization feels is in the best interest of the team.”

That's generally the type of diplomatic response you would expect from a star player, so Watt's comments on the matter are hardly surprising. He added,

“So as a player on the team, I do my job and I go to work and I play the games, and the GM and the owners, they do their job and they try and do what they feel is best for the team … And so, all I can do is show up and go to work and hope that all the guys that we have are great contributors to our team.”

Hopkins broke into the NFL as a first-round pick of the Texans back in 2013 and almost instantly established himself as one of the league's best wide outs.

In seven seasons in Houston, Hopkins made four Pro Bowl appearances and earned three First-Team All-Pro selections. However, his shaky relationship with head coach/general manager Bill O'Brien — coupled with the fact that Hopkins wanted a raise — eventually led to him being moved.
