The Houston Texans are not expected to reach a new deal with pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney before the deadline on Monday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Clowney is expected to skip training camp, but his holdout is not expected to carry over into the regular season.

The Texans placed a franchise tag on Clowney earlier this offseason. He will make just under $16 million in 2019.

Clowney is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 15 games and registered 47 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by Houston with the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Clowney went on to appear in just four contests during his rookie year due to injuries, and the following season, he was disappointing, participating in 13 games and totaling 40 tackles, 4.5 sacks and six passes defended.

The Rock Hill, S.C. native then finally began to show signs of breaking out in 2016, finishing with 52 tackles, six sacks and a forced fumble, making his first Pro Bowl as a result.

Then, in 2017, Clowney had the best year of his career, racking up 59 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a defensive score, earning another Pro Bowl selection.

The Texans won 11 games and captured the AFC South division title this past year but went on to lose to the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
