On MLK Day, Kelly Clarkson paid homage to Martin Luther King Jr. with a cover of  one of U2‘s biggest hits: “Pride (In the Name of Love).”

On Monday's edition of The Kelly Clarkson Show, she performed U2's “Pride (In the Name of Love).” The cover featured The Edge's iconic guitar riff.

After the first verse, Clarkson went straight into the middle eight. “Early morning, April four/Shot rings out in the Memphis sky/Free at last, they took your life/They could not take your pride,” she sang.

Her vocal power intensified this performance of the song. On the original recording, Bono belted out with all of his power. I'm not sure it matches what Clarkson does with her cover.

“Pride (In the Name of Love)” is the lead single from The Unforgettable Fire. It's also the first of two songs on the album to pay tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., the other being “MLK.” The song is one of the band's biggest hits and is the second most-played song in their entire catalog behind “Sunday Bloody Sunday.” Most recently, they played it on three nights during their Sphere residency.

Additionally, on Songs of Surrender, an album of reworked U2 songs, “Pride” was the lead single. It was the first of the 40 songs to be released to the public.

U2 has released dozens of hits throughout their illustrious career. They have won nearly every award under the sun.

Currently, the band is playing in Las Vegas at the Sphere. It is their first concert residency and they are the inaugural act to perform at the high-tech venue. U2's residency is centered around their 1991 album, Achtung Baby.
