Note to self: do not poke the bear that is Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, especially when he's stressed.

When asked about the status of Warriors point guard Stephen Curry going into Saturday's rematch against the Memphis Grizzlies, Kerr put it very simply: “very doubtful.”

It's easy to see why Steve Kerr was a little bit terse with his answer. The Warriors are fluctuating around the .500 mark this season, even with Curry putting up MVP-level numbers. Draymond Green is apparently regressing, Klay Thompson is still rehabbing, and the Andrew Wiggins experiment is turning into a bit of a dud.

Luckily, it looks like Stephen Curry got away with just a tailbone contusion, which is great news considering the apparent severity of his fall. The two-time MVP suffered a serious hand injury last season, so the Warriors are best served by playing it as safe as they can with  him. They are currently on the outside looking into the Western Conference playoff picture, and even if they make the cut, they are likely to fall in five or six games to the Utah Jazz or Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.

With developing young pieces in James Wiseman and Jordan Poole, and the pending return of human microwave in Thompson, it is in the Warriors' best interests to rest Curry whenever necessary while still competing.

Of course, that probably means another lost season for Steve Kerr and Co., which makes his brusqueness very understandable. Luckily, the Warriors got by okay on Friday night without Steph, taking down the Grizzlies comfortably 116-103. We'll see if Memphis takes their revenge tomorrow.
