The Chicago White Sox have finally settled on who to appoint as the next leader of the team's brain trust. On Friday morning, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that the White Sox have appointed Chris Getz as the team's new general manager after the firing of Rick Hahn.

Getz has been a longtime servant of the White Sox organization, both as a member of the front office and the clubhouse. It was the South Siders that drafted Getz back in 2005, and he stayed with the organization in his playing career, suiting up for the team's big league side in 2008 and 2009. After his playing career came to an end after the 2014 season, Getz then served as a member of the team's operations department for four years before receiving a promotion to the assistant general manager position, where he served for three more years.

In a press release, it became clear that White Sox owner Jerry Reindsorf valued having someone who knew of the team's operations inside and out, hence his decision to promote from within.

“Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience within our organization to this role. Most importantly, he knows our players, both at the major league level and in our system, knows our staff and is familiar with all aspects of our baseball operations department,” Reindsorf said.

The task ahead is far from an easy one for new White Sox general manager Chris Getz. After a down 2023 season, Getz now has the herculean job of rebuilding the team, getting them back to contending ways after their 2021 showing gave the franchise hope for the future.
