The Dallas Wings are set to begin their 2024 regular season on Wednesday night. Satou Sabally will be at the game, however, she will not play. Sabally is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and is expected to be out until August.
The Wings star still believes in the team. Dallas is looking to remain in contention to begin the season. Sabally's return in August could help them end up making a deep postseason run.
On Wednesday morning, Sabally shared a message on her Instagram as the Wings prepare for the season opener.
“Year 5 and I couldnt feel more gratitude than today. I’m doing everything I can to be ready, to be at my best once it’s in Gods time to let me shine and do what I do,” Sabally wrote. “Now it’s time to be the best teammate I can be while we start off to our best season yet. I believe so much in the success of our squad even tho it feels like we’re always left in the shadows of the narrative to be the best.
“I believe, and that’s the most important mindset you can have. Go Wings. be back soon.”
Sabally is going to do everything she can to be the best teammate moving forward. The Wings will unquestionably miss her production on the floor, though.
Wings trying to overcome Satou Sabally's injury absence

Sabally, 26, is a two-time All-Star. She finished fifth in WNBA MVP voting in 2023 following a tremendous performance.
Sabally averaged 18.6 points per game on 43.5 percent field goal and 36.1 percent three-point shooting. She also averaged 8.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per outing.
The Wings are a better team when Sabally is playing. She probably would have been an MVP candidate once again in 2024. Still, Sabally will be able to positively impact team chemistry throughout the first portion of the '24 campaign. That is something that may be overlooked by fans, but it is extremely important nonetheless.
And she will certainly play a pivotal role for Dallas once she returns later in the season.
Arike Ogunbowale is going to lead the Wings amid Sabally's injury absence. Dallas features a talented roster and they could surprise some people around the WNBA world.
Dallas preparing to begin 2024 regular season
The Wings are excited for the new campaign. Dallas reached the postseason in 2024 and they should have an opportunity to contend once again.
The Wings will immediately be challenged to open the 2024 season, though, as they will go head-to-head with Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. Reese has been one of the best women's college basketball players over the past few seasons. She was ultimately selected No. 7 overall by Chicago in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Jacy Sheldon was selected No. 5 overall in 2024 by the Wings. Perhaps there will be some extra motivation for both rookies as they prepare to play against one another for the first time in the WNBA.
The Sky-Wings clash is scheduled for 8 PM EST in Dallas. Both teams are looking to start the new season on a high note, so this certainly projects to be a competitive affair.
