WWE's decision to pair Baron Corbin up with JBL is like throwing a mountain of whipped cream on top of a giant vanilla milkshake; if you liked it before, you probably like it as much, if not more now, and if you never had much of a sweet tooth, you're probably really don't like it now.

Working a 2022 version of his typical schtick, making fun of crowds for being fat and lazy, trashing millennials, and making fun of sports teams – aka, the cheapest heat in the game – JBL has largely taken away the need for Corbin to work the mic, which is nice, but has replaced him with an older, more bitter version of the same schtick.

And now, in a move few fans saw coming, JBL can add schtick stealer to his resume, as, for some reason, John “Bradshaw” Layfield has started calling Corbin a “Wrestling God” as if Kenny Omega doesn't, you know, exist.

Initially coined by his manager and long-time family friend, Don Callis, Omega being called a “Wrestling God” was part of his gimmick during his run as the belt collector, and even if he's been largely absent from the in-ring scene for the majority of 2022, working just three matches due to injury and suspension, his status with the signifier hasn't changed.

So what gives? Is there a pantheon of wrestling royalty that includes multiple modern-day Hercules-es, aka gods who walk among us common folk, or is JBL simply too old-school to google a gimmick before he decides to use it? Either way, it's a strange decision indeed.
