Kurt Angle had more faith in WWE main man Vince McMahon when the latter pitched the former on being the face of new-look ECW than most guys in his position would be.

On his own podcast, The Kurt Angle Show, the former WWE superstar discussed the conversation he had with Vince McMahon about making the move. Shockingly, part of the pitch was making less money.

“Vince approached me before anybody else, and he said I’m gonna start a new promotion and I want you to be the face of it. I said what’s it called, and he said ECW. But you’re gonna make less money and work in smaller arenas. I said, ‘Why the hell would I want to do that, Vince?’ He said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you on the pay-per-views.’ And Vince did. Whether it be WWE, WCW, or ECW, as long as Vince owns it and he’s running it, I’m gonna do it because Vince has never done me wrong. I didn’t think he was gonna do me wrong in this situation, either.”

Even after leaving the WWE, Kurt Angle has had nothing but nice things to say about the company, especially his former boss in Vince McMahon.

Rumors forever swirl around Angle about a return to in-ring work — because pro wrestling! — but he’s on record stating if he ever did do such a thing, which he currently doesn’t plan on doing, it would be for the WWE and not upstart AEW.

As for the new-look ECW the company started, it didn’t last very long as it lost all its reason for mattering in the first place, becoming yet another PG-ish McMahon owned product. The first two One Night Stand pay-per-view specials put on by the sports entertainment company, though, were excellent. If you’re unfamiliar with the ECW product, I suggest watching some of it.
