After bidding his time during the opening segment of SmackDown, listening to Kevin Owen's impassioned speech to The Usos, and then the brothers, Jimmy and Jey, talking some trash back at them, Sami Zayn was afforded one final chance to address his Bloodline brothers before their forthcoming match at WrestleMania 39, and needless to say, “The Underdog of the Underground” had a lot on his mind.

“This is something you keep forgetting,” Sami Zayn said. “You talk about blood, you talk about blood, guess what? Blood’s not the only thing that makes you family. Loyalty makes you family.”

When Jey asked Zayn what he knows about family, what with his decision to turn on Reigns at the Royal Rumble, Zayn clapped back with the promo of his life that will certainly earn a spot in The Bloodline documentary when it’s eventually assembled a few years down the line.

“What do I know about loyalty? Zayn asked. “Maybe I need to remind you of something, pal; I was loyal to you from Day 1. I was loyal to you from Day 1, I was loyal to all of you the whole time. You are the ones who chose blood over loyalty, because you chose Roman Reigns. You chose him because he was blood, even though he’s never been loyal to you (Jimmy), and he’s never been loyal, especially to you (Jey).

“Hey Jey, here’s something Roman never told ya; the pressure, the weight of the Bloodline, it’s always been on the two of you. So I’m gonna do a favor for both of you; I am gonna put you out of your misery because, guess what? At WrestleMania, we are taking your tag team championships from you.  And when we do, that’s the end; that’s the end of Roman Reigns, that’s the end of The Bloodline, that’s the end of all of it. And then you two can go back to just being you… you guys can go back to just being The Usos. You just aren’t going to have those WWE Tag Team Championships to hold onto anymore.”

Frankly, it's hard to argue with Zayn's assertion, as The Usos have been carrying The Bloodline's weight for a very long time now, and have been forced to wrestle as a proxy for Reigns as he continues to work fewer and fewer events moving forward. While the duo would certainly love to keep their belts long-term and fight for their own 1,000-day reign, in a way, it feels like The Usos might actually appreciate losing to Zayn and Owens at WrestleMania, as they'd finally be afforded a chance to lift their heads above water a breath after what feels like an eternity under Reigns' control.

Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn believe they earned a spot headlining WrestleMania 39.

Speaking with David Cormier of ESPN about their forthcoming match at Mania, the MMA legend asked if Sami Zayn and Owens if they care where they're booked on the card, and the “Prize Fighter” let it be known that he believes that he and his partner have earned a spot in the main event.

“We say we're headlining,” said Owens. “What closes the show, as far as I know, we don't know. Headlining, I use that term, because it's what means the most to me. People feel that we should be last, we've put forth the most compelling story, we've worked so hard. I say ‘we' but I'm lucky to be where I am. I'm reaping the rewards of the work that this guy [Sami] has done and the work the Usos have done over the last year. I made sense where it went, but those guys worked so hard for the last year. A lot of times, I would say, until recently, I feel that work went, not unnoticed but underappreciated. Now everybody can see how good they are, how amazing they are, and I'm just lucky to be a part of it. The fact that everybody feels that we should go on last and we should main event, that's the most important thing to me.”

Zayn joined in on the conversation too, noting that he wouldn't be where he is today without KO.

“He's short-changing his involvement in this, he's a crucial component,” Zayn added. “He was weaved in and out of the story, quite carefully, we were very delicate about it because we didn't want to do… we've been careful about it for 20 years about how much we give of this because we don't want people to get sick of it. We're very delicate and careful about his involvement and how much of it and for how long. We always wanted to weave him as a constant throughout the story because we thought it was beginning to end, it might be a little much. I understand what he's saying and I think he's minimizing his involvement, but he was crucial to the story. I agree 100%; headlining, main event, whatever, these are sometimes bragging terms. In my opinion, best story wins. It's been the story that has carried the company for a year. It's broken records with seemingly every record that we have; ratings being up, merchandise being up, social media engagement, box office, record-setting numbers at Survivor Series, WrestleMania, and Montreal [WWE Elimination Chamber]. I try not to get in the mud when it comes to this stuff. I've been pretty good in my career about not slinging mud and not talking trash. My thing has always been, when you're the best, you don't have to tell people that you're the best. We'll see where it ends up, but the story has spoken for itself at this point.”

Will Owens, Zayn, and The Usos actually earn a spot in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 39? Or will they have to leave the ring and then watch Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair duke it out on the monitors in the locker room? Either way, it's clear the entire wrestling universe will have this match, in particular, circled on the card, as it could very well go down as an inflection point in WWE history.
