When Trinity, then known as Naomi, left WWE alongside Mercedes Mone/Sasha Banks in the midst of a run with the Women's Tag Team Championships, it took the professional wrestling world by storm.

A pair of WWE OGs who came up through NXT before becoming fixtures of the main roster, Trinity and Mone felt disrespected by their booking by Vince McMahon and company and opted to walk instead of taking it lying down, forgoing a chance to return to The Fed when Paul “Triple H” Levesque took over creative control in favor of carving their own paths through professional wrestling.

For Trinity, that meant signing a deal with Impact Wrestling, where she quickly became the Knockouts Champion and remained at the top of the card until TNA Hard to Kill, where she was dethroned by stalwart Knockout Jordynne Grace in Las Vegas. Though she is now expected to return to WWE at some point in the not-too-distant future, Trinity's efforts in the ImpactZone were celebrated by coworker/WWE legend Gail Kim, who put over her humility and undeniable star power.

“I can never give her enough props because of, not only the performer that she is, but the human being that she is. She’s never changed from the girl that I met in NXT. I worked with her, I think people forget, when she first came into WWE because I was there on the main roster. Of course, everyone coming into the company is gonna be all timid and nice. She’s never changed from that person. If anything, she’s only gotten better. It’s a testament, when you see her interact with the fans and how much they love her and all her loyal fans, the love she gives back, and to see her in the ring, we already know she’s a star,” Gail Kim told Denise Salcedo via Fightful.

“To see her level up in the ring, because obviously we have a great division, we give the girls a lot of time, we feature them a lot. She has killed it. I think it just opened up this newfound confidence for her as well. I remember her, when she came into the company, I wasn’t there actually. I was doing Amazing Race at the time for her debut, I missed that. I talked to her before, and then she had her first match with KiLynn King, which was off the charts. Then to see this last match, obviously she didn’t come out victorious, but that match, I think everyone was like, woah. She even surprised me. That powerbomb, I was like, ‘Oh, okay, Trinity.’ I knew she already had it, but she’s showing that she can really go. I think she was surprised when she first came into our company, the time that she was given, she was like, ‘Woah, oh my gosh.’ Now, it’s like, she can go any time.”

What does the future hold for Trinity? Will she jump back to WWE like oh so many fans expect, parlaying her success in the Impact Zone into a bigger and better push on RAW or SmackDown? Only time will tell, but based on Kim's comments, it's safe to say she'll always be welcomed back regardless of what Scott D'Amore's company is called.

Trinity is proud of her accomplishments in Impact Wrestling.

Speaking of Impact stars who discussed their careers past, present, and future, Trinity actually cut it up with Denise Salcedo herself back in November, where she recalled her time in the Impact Zone and what it meant to become a champion in the promotion.

“Yes that was my goal coming in,” Trinity Fatu said via WrestleZone. “But I had no idea how long it would take. And I was willing and ready to do whatever I had to do to accomplish this goal. It’s just been an incredible journey. All of it. The whole experience with Impact.”

Asked how it felt to debut in the promotion in the spring of 2023, Fatu called it “surreal” before quickly learning that she fit right in with her fellow Knockouts.

“It was very surreal. I was so nervous. And so there was so much to prepare for and so much unexpected things that I stressed about because I want every performance to be perfect and be my best. But you just have no control over that. When you’re wrestling in front of a live crowd you never know what’s going to happen. So I think I really didn’t have time to think or process the getting through it in the win. I was just so like… Just in it. And then when it was finally over, it was just such a just surreal, and, relief and, happiness, and just like a overwhelming flow of joy, and tears, and everything, and having my sis Sasha, or Mercedes, and Cerona show up, it was, it was… I couldn't ask for a better, a better night.”

Whether Trinity works one more match in TNA, no more matches in TNA, or forgoes a return to WWE in order to become a Gail Kim-esque figure for the modern era of the promotion, it's clear her decision to bet on herself was the right one, as there's no way she'd be this hyped if she stuck around in WWE.
