The Young Sheldon series finale is coming on May 16. CBS' hit Big Bang Theory prequel series will conclude after seven successful seasons.

Warning: Spoilers for Young Sheldon ahead

Before the finale, Young Sheldon dropped major a bombshell. George Cooper Sr. (Lance Barber) died before the family portrait photoshoot. At the same time, Sheldon (Iain Armitage) has made up his mind for his graduate school and Georgie (Montana Jordan) is getting on Mandy's (Emily Osment) mother's good side.

Young Sheldon finale predictions

The two-part finale will air on CBS at 8 pm ET on Thursday, May 16. There is a lot to close out in that hour, and here are five theories for the finale.

The Coopers will stay put

In the last episodes, George Sr. landed his dream job. He was offered a chance to coach at Rice University (not a job at Rice-A-Roni as Georgie thought).

That would have meant that the Coopers would have had to move to Houston, Texas. This is a decision that upsets Sheldon but excites Missy (Raegan Revord).

But since George Sr. died, it's unlikely the Cooper family will have any reason to move. Thus Sheldon will get to keep his highly-coveted room and Missy will continue to be the “dumb sister of the smartest boy in town.”

What about Meemaw?

Of all of the characters, Meemaw (Annie Potts) has had the roughest go in Season 7. Her house blew down, her gambling room got busted, and she was arrested.

Moving in with her boyfriend Dale (Craig T. Nelson) has resulted in more tension in their relationship. She misses her independence, which results in frustrations with living with Dale. By the finale, Meemaw will likely settle into her new home and embrace the life she has with Dale.

Georgie will have a breakthrough with Mandy's parents

It's clear that Mandy's parents, Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones) and Jim (Will Sasso) McAllister, aren't the biggest fans of Georgie. Well, at least Jim has given him the benefit of the doubt. However, that will change in the finale.

In the last episode of Young Sheldon leading up to the finale, Georgie tries his best to win over Audrey. The dialect lessons and grocery store trips weren't enough to win her over. However, later in the episode, Audrey is seen watching over Georgie as he takes care of CeeCee. A slight smile comes across her face before Georgie ruins the moment with a poop joke.

But at the end of the day, Young Sheldon's finale has to set up the Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage spin-off, premiering this fall. By the end of the finale, the McAllisters will finally fully welcome Georgie into the family.

Paige will return

Mckenna Grace‘s Paige — a fellow child wonder and Sheldon's biggest rival — hasn't been seen in a long time in Young Sheldon. She was an integral part of the series in the earlier seasons despite only appearing in nine episodes. Even so, Paige always made her presence known.

She hasn't been seen since Season 6, Episode 16. In that episode, Missy steals her dad's truck and takes Paige with her. They were eventually caught by the police and Paige hasn't been seen since.

The last interaction between Sheldon and Paige came a few episodes earlier in Season 6 Episode 13. A drunken Paige leads Sheldon to a frat party. Sheldon and Missy then save Paige from hanging out with a much older college student.

This prediction feels like a pipedream, but an appearance from Grace would help close that chapter on Sheldon's life. After all, Paige isn't mentioned outside of Young Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. There has to be a reason for that. And the frat house interaction would be an odd way to close that chapter of Sheldon's life.

More Big Bang Theory surprises

Adult Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) are returning in the Young Sheldon finale. This has been known, and CBS has even revealed a clip of their epic returns.

However, perhaps they aren't the only Big Bang Theory cameos in store for the prequel's finale. Kaley Cuoco made a cameo as a different character and Simon Helberg reprised his role of Howard Wolowitz in a voiceover cameo.

It doesn't have to be anything major. Perhaps in the scene where adult Sheldon and Amy are talking, Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) walks in to check on Sheldon or something to that effect. It'd put a neat bow on the prequel series.

Sheldon delivers a heartwarming speech at George's funeral

While George was painted as an awful dad in The Big Bang Theory. that couldn't be further from the truth in Young Sheldon. Sheldon shares several heartwarming moments with his dad, and an emotional send-off is due.

Anyone who has watched The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon knows that Sheldon Cooper isn't in touch with his emotions. However, upon learning about his father's death, it shakes him to the core. Sheldon nearly falls over as he slowly descends into a nearby seat.

The death will shake the Cooper family. Even Meemaw, who has never been fond of George, is overtaken with emotion when she hears about his death.

This sets the stage for Sheldon to do the impossible. Young Sheldon's finale should feature a scene at George's funeral where the title character delivers a powerful speech.

Now, I'm not suggesting Sheldon waxes poetically about his father — that'd be far too out of character. But in his own way, Sheldon should be able to deliver a speech that shows real growth for the character.

The Young Sheldon series finale will air on May 16 at 8 pm ET on CBS.
