Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has expressed interest in having a dual-threat quarterback to effectively run his offense. With some comments recently made, Lynn may be hinting that former MVP Cam Newton is not that guy.

“We’re looking at everybody,” Lynn said when asked about the team's search for a QB, via Lindsay Thiry of ESPN. “I want to turn over every single rock, so yeah, we’re looking at everybody.”

The Chargers went separate ways with longtime starter Philip Rivers this offseason and have been searching for a quarterback since. Last year's starter, Tyrod Taylor is a dual-threat and has experience as a starter on multiple teams so he may be the guy for Lynn and the Chargers. Slotted with the sixth pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Chargers may go that route and select a prospect like Oregon's Justin Herbert or Utah State's Jordan Love.

Regardless, when asked specifically about Newton, Lynn said complimented the former No. 1 pick but slyly seemed to hint that Los Angeles wouldn't be his next home.

“Cam’s a good quarterback,” Lynn said initially when asked about Newton. “He’s done a lot of good things with the Panthers, led them to a Super Bowl. He’s had some injuries. If he’s healthy, he’s going to be a good quarterback for somebody.”

As for Newton, the 30-year-old was released by the Carolina Panthers nine seasons with the team. The three-time Pro Bowler has seen his career suffer in recent years due to lingering issues which led to his eventual status as an unsigned free agent.
