Ryan Reynolds has revealed that the production of the upcoming MCU movie Deadpool and Wolverine has concluded.
He took to his Instagram Story to post a picture of him with director Shawn Levy editing the movie. Boyz II Men's “End of the Road” is playing over the photo.
“And that's all she wrote for post-production,” his post read. “Feels like a million years of work went by in a blink. Sitting next to this guy made it all so sweet… Hard to walk away.”
In case the story has expired, ComicBook.com posted the story on their X account.
This update comes just over a month ahead of the MCU movie's release date. Deadpool and Wolverine will be released on July 26. It is promising to see that the movie is not being rushed to the complete last minute.
What is Deadpool and Wolverine about?
In Deadpool and Wolverine, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is recruited by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) for a mission that will affect the entire MCU timeline. Along the way, he enlists the help of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman).
The two will square off with Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), the twin sister of Charles Xavier. They are known for their performance as Diana, Princess of Wales, in Netflix's The Crown. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) will play Paradox, a TVA agent.
Reprising their roles from the previous two Deadpool movies are Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, and Stefan Kapćić.
Additionally, Jennifer Garner will make her bombshell return as Elektra in the MCU movie. She previously played the role in the 2003 Ben Affleck-led Daredevil movie. She also starred in a solo movie as the character.
Shawn Levy directed the movie and wrote the script with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. He previously directed both Reynolds and Garner in The Adam Project. His collaborative relationship with Reynolds dates back to Free Guy in 2021 and he directed Jackman in 2011's Real Steel.
The MCU's upcoming slate
For the first time since 2012, Deadpool and Wolverine will be the only MCU movie released in 2024. Since the MCU began, they have released several movies each year except 2009 (when they had no movies released), 2010 (Iron Man 2 was the lone release), and 2012 (The Avengers was the lone release). Due to the pandemic, there were not any MCU movies released in 2020.
The MCU typically released two movies per year for a while. That changed in 2017 when three movies were released — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok. 2018 and 2019 followed suit with three movies each.
However, 2021 changed the game. Hot off the movie theaters coming back after the pandemic, they released four movies — Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. 2022 and 2023 went back to three-movie years.
As of the time of this writing, the MCU is slated to release four feature films in 2025. Captain America: Brave New World will kick things off in February before Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and Blade come out in May, July, and November, respectively.
