The MCU's upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine has gotten an NSFW synopsis that gives an idea of what the film is about. Suffice to say, Ryan Reynolds‘ character is not a fan of them.

What is Deadpool and Wolverine about?

The synopsis of Deadpool and Wolverine surfaced online as tickets went on sale (via The Cine Geek on X). It almost sounds as if it is written from the perspective of Deadpool himself, as it begins by calling the film Marvel Studios' “most significant mistake to date.”

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date — Deadpool and Wolverine,” the synopsis begins. “A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to—F**k. Synopses are so f**king stupid.”

It's also known that the Time Variance Authority (TVA) recruit Deadpool for their mission. Matthew Macfadyen plays Paradox, the TVA agent, in the film.

Shawn Levy directed the film. He co-wrote the script with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Previously, Levy directed Hugh Jackman in Real Steel and Reynolds in Free Guy and The Adam Project.

Who is in it?

Ryan Reynolds will return as Deadpool in the film. He first played the role in Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, that was not the definitive version of the character. In 2016, Reynolds got his solo film as the character and provided a more comic-accurate iteration of the character.

Two years later, Deadpool 2 was released. It was directed by The Fall Guy director David Leitch.

Both films were box office hits. They each grossed over $780 million worldwide at the box office. Cumulatively, the films have made over $1.5 billion worldwide.

Deadpool and Wolverine marks the characters' first adventures in the MCU. This comes after 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney years ago.

Hugh Jackman will return in the film as Wolverine. Fans may remember that his character died in James Mangold's Logan. However, the film will involve the Time Variance Authority, so perhaps this is an alternate version of the character.

Emma Corrin will star as the film's antagonist, Cassandra Nova. Macfadyen will also make his MCU debut as Paradox.

Several actors from the previous two Deadpool films will return in the third film. Morena Baccarin headlines this list as Vanessa, Wade Wilson's fiancée. Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, and Stefan Kapičić will also appear in the film.

Another Jackman-like set for the film is Jennifer Garner as Elektra. She previously played the part in the 2003 Ben Affleck-led Daredevil film. She subsequently got her own solo film in 2005.

The MCU's schedule

Deadpool and Wolverine is the only MCU feature film coming out in 2024. While 2024 is bare in terms of MCU releases, 2025 will get the series back on track with four feature films being released (Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade).

However, the MCU will release Agatha All Along and Eyes of Wakanda in 2024 on Disney+.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be released on July 26.
