Chris Hemsworth has gotten to play his fair share of heroes over his cinematic career, but Furiosa looks to give the actor another rare opportunity to tap into his more villainous side as Dementus. Following the release of the first trailer for the Mad Max spinoff, Hemsworth has given a little more insight into what fans can expect from his wasteland warlord.

The new information about Dementus came during a panel at Brazil's 2023 CCXP event where Hemsworth was present with his Furiosa co-star Anya Taylor-Joy to speak about the new film, according to Collider's Steven Weintraub via GamesRadar. Hemsworth said viewers can expect to see a “complicated individual” when they get the chance to see Dementus on the big screen battling Furiosa.

“He’s [a] violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the wasteland,” Hemsworth said. “He’s a product of his environment. There’s an intensity to him… he has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed and he has learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and it’s a very manipulative charisma.”

Dementus is set to play a central role in shaping Taylor-Joy's Furiosa into the Imperator audiences were introduced to in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, where she was portrayed by Charlize Theron. It has already been revealed in the film's official synopsis that Dementus' forces are responsible from abducting Furiosa from her home in the Green Place and set her on the path that would eventually cross with Max Rockatansky.

The first trailer for Furiosa gave a taste of what audiences can expect from the post-apocalyptic action film, including its lead stars as the titular heroin and her adversary. It also highlighted more of the Mad Max-style action audiences praised from 2015's Fury Road along with other returning characters, such as Immortan Joe, during their younger days in this apocalyptic wasteland.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to release in theaters on May 24, 2023.
