Jonathan Majors' return to the MCU in Loki Season 2 may have been a surprise to some. The director of the latest episode recently broke his silence on the matter.

A sticky situation

Earlier this year, Majors was arrested. He was arrested on multiple charges, including assault, strangulation, and harassment. This led him to being dropped by the United States Army for their ads, along with his management and PR teams.

But the MCU was a different story. He is entrenched in the franchise after appearing in the first season of Loki as well as being the antagonist of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The multiverse is always an option to easily explain a recast in the future, but Loki Season 2 didn't have that choice.

Majors returns as different variants of Kang in Loki Season 2, including Victor Timely. Speaking to Variety, the director of the episode “1893,” called Majors' arrest a “surprise.”

“It was a surprise for sure,” he said. “But I don't know anything aobut it, other than to say that we had, honestly, such a great experience on the set. The cast was a wonderful ensemble. They all worked together super well. Tom [Hiddleston] would have an idea, Jonathan would have ideas, Owen [Wilson] is an idea machine.”

He added, “The experience on set was without any drama, and just a joy. For me, especially as my first big directing opportunity, I count myself so fortunate to be working with such high-caliber actors that made the directing that much easier for me.”

Loki Season 2 continues the titular character's adventures with the TVA. Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson star alongside Sophia Di Martino, Tara Strong, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Jonathan Majors. Ke Huy Quan also appears in the season.
