Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a right ankle injury late in the fourth quarter of Monday night's overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and did not return.

Lawrence was hurt when left tackle Walker Little was pushed backward and stepped on his ankle, which then appeared to get caught underneath him when he fell to the ground. Lawrence tried to get up, then went down to his knees and slammed his helmet on the ground in frustration.

Lawrence was assisted from the field by medical personnel and needed the help of a person underneath each arm while he was walking in the tunnel toward the Jaguars' locker room and X-ray area.

Fans reacted swiftly on social media:

@jmthrivept – “Trevor Lawrence – Gets his right ankle stepped on then rolled, then further rolled over after the defender hits him. I’d say main concern is an ankle sprain but given how much pain he’s in (+ assistance from staff into locker room), possible concern for a fracture.”
@mysportsupdate – Trevor Lawrence tried to get up, fell back down, and the entire stadium gasped. He's headed to the locker room with help. This sucks.
@_MLFootball – This is brutal. Trevor Lawrence ankle looks horrific. He got up, fell down, and slammed his helmet. Does not look good.
@saucegonnacost – Don’t know who #91 is but hella respectable, immediately tried to help Trevor Lawrence up then 1st 1 down on a knee
@htowncritic – Can someone explain to me why the Jaguars made Trevor Lawrence walk to the x-ray room on a broken ankle instead of getting him a cart?
Initial tests showed that Lawrence sprained the ankle, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. He is scheduled to undergo additional testing to determine the extent of the injury.
